MOUNTAIN BIKING
Mountain biking in Courchevel, Three Valleys France (the largest
ski area in the world) is undiscovered by majority of bikers.
With over 600 km of trails and enough lifts to move hundreds of
thousands of people an hour, to find the same area accessible
in the summer for only a hand full of people is unbelievable.
You can ride all day and not see another person. Modern gondolas
take you to top, there are never any queues, unlike other alpine
mountain bike centres.
The summer trail map for mountain biking make route planning very
easy and mean maintained and patrolled trails that are clearly
graded easy, difficult or very difficult. As well as the marked
trails where ever you look there is so much terrain to be discovered,
the unlimited unmarked single tracks, the miles of cross country
terrain. Test yourself on the French Federation approved downhill
course, a very technical descent from the top of Chenus gondola
back to 1850 centre.
Pleisure staff will
help you discover the area either by guiding or helping with your
route planning. Lift pass for the summer is ONLY £30 FOR
1 WEEK and also gives free use of the resort swimming pool.
BEGINNERS
Will find plenty of trails to give it a go, service roads and
single track. Good affordable Bike rental now available at Pleisure
chalet.
DOWNHILL
From easy fun routes down to the more technical there is plenty
for everyone. With altitude drop of 2700 – 600m on superb
adrenaline pumping terrain.
CROSS COUNTRY
Routes spanning back and forth all across the vast Three Valley
area, will keep the even most experienced riders happy for many
days. Even Possible to not use the same trail twice in a week.
Quotes on Courchevel from www.justride.co.uk:

Courchevel does not have a mountain bike reputation. In Summer
2005 Justride went to find out if, as promised by our hosts, it
was the hidden gem of the alps.
A key difference to other Alpine centres we’ve been to is
the almost total lack of anyone else using the mountain, on many
days we saw more marmots than people. This meant that there was
a raw, natural, wilderness feel and you could concentrate fully
on the riding with the runs punctuated by arm pump not the hiker
slalom that had irritated us so much last year in Cham.
The 3 valleys area has one of the most comprehensive lift systems
in the Alps, although in the summer the lifts are limited to a
handful this is not a problem as there is plenty of good riding
from the top of all the lifts, 30 minute single track descents
were a multiple, daily occurrence many accompanied by 30mph gravel
blasts as a warm up. The benefit of this is the very low cost
of a lift pass, at around £25 for a week it’s about
half the cost of Morzine.
We were genuinely surprised and delighted with Courchevel, we
were not sure what to expect or if we’d find enough quality
trails to keep us buzzing but we were still finding new routes
on our last day. There is a vast amount of trails and a huge variety,
flat out fireroads, densely wooded singletrack, open pastures,
rock gardens, steep switchbacks and cruising double track. Whatever
your particular fave you’ll find it here and you can climb
as much or as little as you wish. For anyone who just wants to
shred quality trails away from the crowds then there are few better
places to be.
If you want a superb mountain holiday, we can totally recommend
it.
